The BEBC Society’s National Black Pitch Contest offers Black businesses the chance to learn from mentors, access resources, network, and gain support on their entrepreneurial journey. This program is an extension of the BEBC Black Business Summit, coordinated and run by BEBC.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a legal resident of Canada
- Open to all ages, genders, and industries
- Must be registered as a Canadian business
- The founder or majority shareholder(s) must self-identify as Black
- Must be passionate about the idea being pitched
- Applicants must understand that funding is taxable
- Finalists must be available to attend BEBC’s Black Business Summit in February 2023 (purchasing Summit tickets will be their responsibility)
- Applicants must be members of the BEBC Society or sign up upon entering the Pitch Contest
The Pitch Competition: At BEBC’s Black Business Summit, the top 5 finalists will present their pitches to a panel of judges and will be evaluated on the following:
- Presentation: Clearly communicate your business idea, value proposition, and pathway to sustainability and success.
- Execution: Convince the judges of your ability to carry out your business objectives.
- Motivation: Explain how you intend to use the funds to start or grow your business.
Application Procedure: Applicants must upload a two-minute video that includes:
- A brief autobiography
- The idea they are passionate about
- How the idea impacts the Black community
- Examples of how they plan to bring their idea to life
Timeline:
- December 15, 2022: Applications Close
- January 5, 2023: Semi-Finalists Announced
- January 15, 2023: Voting for Pitch Finalists Begins
- January 21, 2023: Voting for Pitch Finalists Closes
- February 24-25, 2023: Top 5 Finalists Announced
